SAP-to-Legacy Systems Integration

Integration interfaces linking core SAP ERP to a set of older legacy systems still running parts of order management and warehousing, so order and inventory data stayed in sync.

The Challenge

The client's order-to-cash process spanned SAP for core ERP and several legacy systems that predated it, handling parts of warehouse management and order processing. Because the two worlds weren't connected, order and inventory data could drift out of sync, and reconciling them was a manual, recurring burden for the operations team.

Our Approach

  1. 01

    Audit the data flows

Audited the legacy systems' data flows to identify exactly which order, inventory, and shipment events needed to reach SAP and vice versa.

  2. 02

    Design the interfaces

Designed and built integration interfaces to move that data between SAP and the legacy systems on a near-real-time basis.

  3. 03

    Align master data

Established shared master data conventions so the same product, customer, and location records meant the same thing on both sides.

  4. 04

    Built In Monitoring

Built monitoring into the interfaces so integration failures surfaced immediately instead of showing up later as inventory discrepancies.

The Results

Consistent order & inventory data

Kept order and inventory data consistent between SAP and the legacy estate without manual reconciliation.

Lower operational overhead

Reduced the operational overhead of maintaining two systems of record.

A documented integration layer

Gave the client a documented integration layer they could extend as more of the legacy estate was modernized.

Fewer order errors

Cut down on order errors traceable to data drift between systems.
